Als je in Bali reist zie je nu het ‘oude’ naast het ‘nieuwe’.

Veel werk wordt nog steeds met de hand gedaan zoals de aanplant van rijst. Soebak is de naam van het irrigatiesysteem dat op Bali wordt gebruikt voor de rijstvelden. Het systeem is meer dan 1000 jaar geleden ontwikkeld.

Het beschilderen van muren met moderne graffiti is in de jaren ’60 in New York onstaan.

Painting walls with modern graffiti is born in New York in the sixties, so only 60 years ago.

Working Hands: de zilversmid en de houtbewerker

Ik vind het altijd mooi om ambachtsmensen aan het werk te zien. Ze creeren de mooiste dingen.  Op Bali ben je altijd welkom om hun werkplaatsen te bezoeken of je ziet ze heel relaxed voor hun huis aan het werk. Met precisie maken ze prachtige sieraden en van een simpele tak een mooie houten lepel.

Working Hands: the silversmith and the carpenter

I always find it great to see carftsmen at work. They create the most beautiful things. In Bali it is no problem to visit the work places or you can see artisans working, very relaxed in front of the house.

With precision they make amazing jewelry and from a simple branch a beautiful wooden spoon.
